Programme Overview

Program Objectives:

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must have passed a Bachelor's Degree (e.g., BA, BSc, BCom) and/or Master's Degree in Sciences/Social Sciences/Humanities from Gauhati University or any other recognized university.
Minimum Percentage: Usually requires at least 50% marks in aggregate either in the Bachelor's Degree or the Master's Degree (Relaxation of 5% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates may apply as per government rules).
Alternatively, candidates with a Bachelor's in Engineering or Technology (B.E./B.Tech) with specialization in Science and Mathematics might be eligible, often requiring a higher minimum percentage (e.g., 55%).
Candidates appearing in the final year/semester examination of their qualifying degree may also be allowed to apply provisionally, subject to meeting the eligibility criteria upon result declaration before admission.
Bachelor’s degree and/or Master’s degree in Science/ Social Science/ Humanities/ Commerce with at least 50% marks (45% for reserved categories).

Course Structure & Curriculum

Course Structure & Curriculum: The curriculum is designed as per the guidelines of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and Gauhati University's academic regulations.

Core Courses: Includes subjects like Developmental psychology, Philosophical & Sociological Foundations of Education, Learner and Learning Process (Educational Psychology), Educational Technology & ICT, Measurement and Evaluation, Inclusion in Education, etc.
Pedagogy Courses (Method Subjects): Candidates typically choose two school subjects they studied at the graduation/post-graduation level as their teaching methods (e.g., Pedagogy of English, Assamese, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, History, Geography, etc.).
Practical Components: Significant emphasis is placed on hands-on training, including:
- Micro-teaching sessions
- Lesson planning and simulated teaching
- School Internship (a substantial period spent teaching in actual schools):
  The duration of the internship is a minimum 4 weeks for 1^st year and 16 weeks for 2^nd year. It includes:
  Practice teaching, lesson planning, participation in school activities, peer observation, and reflective practices.
- Community engagement activities
- Development of Teaching-Learning Materials (TLM)
- Action Research projects
- Psychology practicals

Assessment Pattern

Includes internal assessments (assignments, presentations, tests) and external semester-end examinations for both theory and practical components.

Internal Assessment: 20% based on assignments, participation, tests.
End Semester Exams: 80% through written university exams.
Practical/Field Work: Continuous evaluation via journals, viva, internship, and community service.
Medium of Instruction: English and Assamese

Admission Process

Admission is based on the Gauhati University B.Ed. Common Entrance Test (GUBEDCET) followed by counseling and document verification.

Admission Criteria: Candidates with at least 50% marks either in the Bachelor’s Degree (B.A./B.Sc./B.Com.) or in the Master’s Degree (M.A./M.Sc./M.Com.) from a recognized university are eligible for admission into B.Ed. Program. Admissions shall be made strictly on a merit basis as per the list provided by G.U. as per Gauhati University B.Ed. Common Entrance Test (GUBEDCET) & Counselling. The reservation for SC/ST/OBC/EWS and other categories shall be as per the rules of the State Govt. and Gauhati University.

Other Important Details

All questions will be of MCQ type with four alternative choices, only one being correct.
Test Booklet and OMR sheet will be in English.
+4 for each correct answer, -1 for each wrong answer, 0 for unattempted questions.
Merit list is based solely on marks obtained in GUBEDCET.
In case of tie:
1. Higher ratio of positive to negative marks gets better rank.
2. Fewer unanswered questions gets better rank.
3. Higher age gets better rank if tie persists.
Reservation and relaxation as per existing GU rules.
Eligibility verification is the responsibility of respective institutions before admission.
Rs. 1500 application and examination fee (plus bank charges if applicable).
Any guideline gaps will be resolved by university authority.

Other Charges:

Rs. 500/- will be charged along with the above for “ Society for Promotion of Teacher Education” constituted as per NCTE norms.
Rs. 1500/- will be charged along with the above for Excursion, Community Festivals, Sahitya Chora, Farewell/Freshers, etc by Student Teacher Council.
No other fee except Exam fee of about Rs 3000/- will be imposed during one academic year
